Telecom NZ To Deploy Ubër UPS

February 14, 2006: Telecom New Zealand has signed a contract with data centre infrastructure and uninterrupted power supply vendor American Power Conversion (APC) to install the highest capacity UPS ever deployed in the country.

APC will be supplying three Silcon 320 KW UPS systems delivering 1.5 megawatts of power to Telecom’s main telephone and data centre in Auckland.

“APC’s Silcon UPS product was the only UPS solution to offer delta power conversion as opposed to double power conversion. Delta power conversion means that the UPS device has minimal power loss during the conversion process,” says Colin Foster, Telecom Building Services Manager. “Unlike double power conversion solutions, it does not convert all input power and then convert it back for output. Delta power conversion equates to big savings in terms of amount of power used.”

Telecom is upgrading its UPS to bolster its services ahead of future growth and to support emerging technology such as IP Telephony and triple play services.
