EMC targets Asian market through Samsung

EMC and Samsung have launched a strategic partnership which involves Samsung selling EMC Clariion-class storage systems in the Asian market under its StorageMax brand name.

The agreement calls for EMC to sell its data storage products through Samsung Electronics, and in return, Samsung will supply its parts to the Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based firm, to be distributed worldwide.

As well as providing storage systems, the companies will provide servers, PCs, services and other technologies. They intend to create new products together too in the future.

This strategic partnership will allow EMC to start providing full-service technology contracts and reach a larger audience.

Dell and EMC have a similar deal that targets small and medium-sized business in the United States. Fujitsu-Siemens have another similar deal that focuses on Europe.

A spokesperson for EMC said that Samsung has technologies that are useful to EMC, and they are exchanging engineers and researchers for the benefit of both companies.

Samsung aims to reach US$17 million in storage products.
