IBM simplifies digital retrieval

IBM is in the process of upgrading the next version of its DB2 Content Manager by adding technology that manages to extract Web and digital content inside repositories via XML tools.

IBM engineers are applying Project Cinnamon to simplify the management of XML content by exporting data from one content management system to another.

It uses a new XML Schema mapping tool at the administration level to allow business users to have an improved visibility over business data stored different repositories.

It hopes that this will smooth over the problems faced by organisations that are concerned about finding important data under new complex record-keeping regulations.

This system should provide them with the opportunity to call up material from any repository, making retrieval abilities much more flexible and accessible.

IBM is carrying out increased research and development work in this area so that a variety of applications can be more easily exchanged with enterprise content management systems.

Big Blue is confident that this new software will make the Documentum wing of EMC, Interwoven and FileNet to sit up and take notice of this new offering.
