Sydney ICT companies offered free tips on going global

Sydney-based ICT businesses that have an eye on cracking the global market, or even establishing some sort of presence outwith the confines of Australia, are invited to participate in Austrade's free upcoming workshop on how to participate and exhibit successfully at technology and trade events and missions around the globe.

Austrade's Global ICT Team Leader, Peter Harrison said the Showcasing Innovation Roadshow, which takes place at the Australian Technology Park, Eveleigh, Sydney on Wednesday 26th May, is geared towards innovative Sydney-based IT firms who wish to participate in technology trade events overseas.

“Advice will be provided on how businesses can position their innovative products and services and how to do it in the most cost effective way."

Harrison said the roadshow is designed to offer assistance to experienced exporters as well as those businesses that have never exported before, both in terms of knowledge and finance.

“For those companies new to exporting, they may be eligible for assistance through Austrade’s New Exporter Development (NED) program. The NED program provides free services to exporters such as advice and information about getting into export, coaching and advice on exporting and on-ground assistance in overseas markets.

“Both new and experienced exporters may be eligible for funding assistance through Austrade’s Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme. The EMDG scheme provides partial reimbursement of export promotional costs to eligible small and medium sized businesses. Eligible expenditure includes trade fairs, overseas representatives, marketing visits, free samples, advertising, communications, and overseas buyer visits," he said.

The modules being presented at the workshop are: - Preparation and Participation at a Trade Event - The Trade-Related Aspects of Forming Joint Ventures and Other Strategic Alliances - Accessing and Raising Finance - Selling to the Government - Pitching Session - Contracts, Relationships and Negotiations

“By attending the workshop firms will learn how to maximise their presence at trade events offshore, prepare and executive a business pitch, effectively access and raise finance, better manage offshore relationships with potential partners, distributors and agents and refine their existing business alliances and form new alliances,” concluded Harrison.
