Cheaper trade for Aussie technology companies

International trade will become simpler, faster and cheaper for Australian technology companies thanks to the alliance of two high profile product identification and e-business standards groups: RosettaNet and EAN Australia.

E-business standards consortium, RosettaNet has launched the Global Logistics Council to work with EAN Australia, which is a nonprofit industry organisation, representing high technology in Australia.

The RosettaNet Global Logistics Council is made up of third-party logistics companies and manufacturers, such as Cisco Systems, DHL, Exel, Federal Express, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Menlo Logistics, Portnet Singapore, Texas Instruments, and United Parcel Service.

EAN will act as a host for RosettaNet to promote the adoption and implementation of its standards to Australia's high technology industry.

The alliance will tap into EAN Australia's 13,000 strong membership to reach out to other businesses in the electronics, semi conductor, transport and customs fields.

Companies will use RosettaNet's E-business standards to reduce costs, improve data quality, and accelerate trading-partner connections. In addition, it will focus on compliance with government regulations and security.

The partnership is expected to improve operational efficiencies and lower transaction costs throughout the supply chain in Australia-based enterprises and their trading partners.

Maria Palazzolo, CEO of EAN Australia, expects this alliance to produce an increase in electronic trading within the technology sector and also increase e-commerce business opportunities between technology companies in the Asia-Pacific region.

RosettaNet president and CEO, Jennifer Hamilton, said the alliance was important in the adoption of RosettaNet locally. "RosettNet's longevity and critical success is largely attributed to the consortium's continued focus on industry outreach and collaboration around standards development and adoption, as well as targeted growth in new markets and geographies.

"We are pleased with the further expansion of RosettaNet into the APAC region and excited about the opportunities that will come about as a result of our new affiliation with EAN Australia."

RosettaNet, in the past, has developed many logistic projects to support the industry, for example, the eCustoms Declaration Milestone Program, which focuses on automating customs import and export procedures that used to be managed manually.
