Samsung Electronics team up with EMC
Samsung Electonics and EMC have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for collaboration in storage system business.
This means that Samsung Electronics will produce and sell EMC storage system offerings in the domestic market on an original equipment manufacturing (OEM0 basis. They will also supply technology assemblies of storage systems to EMC on an original design manufacturing (ODM) basis.
The parners will work together also for marketing, sale, and service of EMC's storage systems in the domestic market.
EMC expects its history with Samsung Electronics to strengthen its leadership in the domestic mid-range storage system market. Samsung Electronics expects that synergy will be created in its server business through the reception of storage system technologies from EMC.
Joseph Tucci, CEO of EMC said: "Overseas markets, excluding North America, are important to EMC as they represented 43 percent of its sales in the fourth quarter of 2003.
"We expect our collaboration with Samsung Electronics, a world-level technology powerhouse, to contribute significantly to development of our products and augmenting marketing capabilities."
