EMC claims best storage platform ever

EMC has refreshed almost the entire line of its hardware products and promises double the performance of these systems for the same cost.

New software innovations will also be delivered across EMC's tiered storage platforms spanning high-end, mid-tier, network attached storage and content addressed storage.

They have simultaneously launched a new Symmetrix DMX, Clariion CX, Celerra and Centera systems, as well as software products, which represents EMC's most extensive storage platforms launch in its history.

The Symmetrix DMX-2 system is equipped with the new DMX-2 technology, which can offer up to 30 percent more performance, using the current-generation directors.

There is a whole new line of next-generation Clarrion CX300, CX500 and CX700 systems that offers customers higher performance at the same prices as previous models and new, replication options while maintaining superior investment protection capabilities.

The Celerra NAS Gateways and Integrated Systems expand the world's broadest NAS product family with new models and enhancements that capitalise on the industry trend towards gateway-based NAS deployments.

The Centera new native mainframe connectivity for Centera content addressed storage further unlocks the tremendous value of fixed-content digital assets stored in mainframe environments. The new platform will enable customers to benefit from up to five times the performance and double the data replication speeds over previous models.

EMC has also released new platform-based software functionality which complies with Storage Management Initiative Specification based management software.

Clive Gold, the marketing director of EMC in Australia and New Zealand is thrilled with these releases because he believes they will maximise the value of information across its lifecycle: "The whole basis of being able to manage information through its lifecycle involves putting the right information at the right place at the right time.

"You need to have a wide range of places to put your information in, and that range is made up of how functional it is, what software is running there, how resilient the platform is, how much information can be stored there. This all dictates the cost of the platfrom. Our releases will extend the range of places, providing better opportunities to manage all of the information in different ways.

"The acquisitions that we have made recently really do place a lot of distance between us and any other vendor in the market. When you look at the whole hardware and storage layer, we are now two generations ahead of anyone else. When you look at what Documentum. Legato and Vmware brings to our business, you can see the advantages. They are industry leaders, combining together to tackle the same goals. It's really exciting to be able to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together."
