Storage system vendor EMC is to team up with application data management software provider OuterBay to integrate OuterBay's software with its own information lifecycle management suite of software products.
Both companies say the resulting solutions will give customers the ability to monitor database growth and usage automatically, and more dynamically move data among different storage tiers, while preserving data access, reducing storage costs and improving overall performance of their database environments.
Mark Sorenson, EMC’s Senior Vice President of Information Management Software, said, "The most successful information lifecycle management strategies will be those that are business-centric and tie closely with key processes and applications. This partnership with OuterBay hits squarely on the centre of this critical customer requirement.
"Specifically, OuterBay will further EMC's ability to help organisations extract the maximum value for structured content environments at the lowest total cost, across every point in the information lifecycle."
The new agreement enhances an already established relationship between the two companies, with the pair having entered into a technology agreement at the beginning of this year which saw the integration of OuterBay's LiveArchive solution with EMC Centera content addressed storage (CAS), resulting in a new solution for the archiving of business transactions and attachments generated from Oracle, PeopleSoft and custom applications in database environments.
