Hewlett-Packard has unveiled plans to disband its Enterprise Systems Group (ESG), which includes its storage offerings, with the various product lines under the auspices of the ESG to be moved into the brand new Technology Solutions Group (TSG).

The decision has been taken as the result of the findings of a task force that was set up by the company to find out how the company can more effectively market and sell its products and services.

The new group will be the largest in the company in terms of revenue, accounting for more than US$9 billion (AUD$12.17 billion) in quarterly sales.

Storage has been identified by HP as a key driver within the newly created group, with CEO Carly Fiorina underlining the strong performance of the ESG in a recent earnings report as an important factor in the company's success going forward.

In addition to announcing changes to the structure of the company, HP said that it was to give new responsibilities to a number of senior executives.

The chief of the company's Personal Systems Unit, Duane Zitzner, will now oversee the company's channel sales, while the head of the Printing and Imaging Unit, Vyomesh Joshi will be charged with heading HP's consumer sales efforts.

A new addition to the executive team is Marcela Perez de Alonzo, who joins HP from Citigroup to replace Susan Bowick, who is retiring from the post of head of Human Resources.
