HDS and CommVault in backup alliance

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) and enterprise data management systems provider CommVault have announced that they have collaborated on a backup solution combining CommVault's Galaxy backup and recovery software with HDS' ShadowImage and TrueCopy software.

Customers can use Galaxy software to backup data from a ShadowImage or a TrueCopy mirror at a disaster recovery site.

Michael Cremen, General Manager of Hitachi Data Systems Australia/New Zealand said, "We have a highly successful partnership with CommVault and the integration of our solutions will further strengthen our ability to help customers protect their data without interrupting their operations."

"CommVault is pleased to work with partners, such as Hitachi Data Systems. By integrating our Galaxy Backup and Recovery software with HDS' storage infrastructure, we have created a complete backup and data integrity solution that maximises availability through eliminating backup windows and improving disaster recovery capabilities," said Gerry Sillars, Country Manager of CommVault Systems Australia.

According to the vendors, the integration of CommVault's platform and HDS' storage reduces schedule and unscheduled downtime in complex storage environments, providing flexibility to customers that need capacity to manage unexpected growth and changes within their environment.

With Hitachi ShadowImage software, customers can replicate information within the Lightning 9900(tm) V or Thunder 9500(tm) V Series storage systems without disrupting operations or overall performance levels. These copies can then be used for application testing, data warehousing/data mining, local backup, or remote replication.

The combined software and hardware solution will be available for Microsoft Windows and Sun Solaris platforms.
