EMC and Fujitsu showcase global failover technology

In an effort to address the growing recovery needs of global corporations, EMC Corporation and Fujitsu Siemens Computers have demonstrated the global failover and recovery of a live SAP ERP application between two data centres located in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and Cork, Ireland.

The integrated failover and recovery demonstration of a production application over transatlantic distances, which the vendors said was the first of its kind, showcased a new, integrated global recovery solution comprising EMC's SRDF/Asynchronous remote replication software, Symmetrix DMX GigE multi-protocol channel directors and Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Primecluster product suite.

Within four minutes and thirty-five seconds after the intentional failure in Hopkinton, the recovery location 3,000 miles away in Cork was running and fully processing SAP transactions.

David Donatelli, EMC's Executive Vice President of Storage Platforms Operations, said: "Our customers know that when it comes to business continuity, distance matters. This demonstration of SRDF/A proves that integrated, long-distance recovery solutions are practical, affordable and deployable today."

Peter Jilek, Executive Vice President Enterprise Products at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, added: "Our goal is to enable customers to freely access information and services anywhere and at any time by providing world-leading products, services and solutions. Today we have demonstrated that achieving global recovery - whether it's across the country or across continents – is a reality. Working with EMC and using standard products such as SRDF/A and Primecluster offers new opportunities for global enterprises to consolidate locations and infrastructures to meet their ever-changing business requirements."
