Legato set for Australian partner/acquisition drive

Storage software provider Legato seem set for a busy time in the Australian market in the coming months, with the vendor looking to increase its presence by way of a concerted acquisition and partner strategy.

Speaking at an informal press and analyst briefing in Sydney earlier today, David B. Wright, Chairman and CEO of Legato, who is visiting from the US, said the recent appointment of Stephen-Lloyd Jones as Managing Director, Australia/New Zealand was part of a wider intent by the company to really lift its game in the region after performing less than magnificently in the past.

"We've done a lousy job out here because we haven't made investments. We have got to make a lot more big investments in Australia in the future, and also get bigger and better partners."

Wright also said that the company had been in talks with the Australian Government in Canberra in a consultation capacity about government IT projects, including Centrelink's proposed $400 million tender offering, remarking that the new Communications Minister Daryl Williams, who replaced Senator Richard Alston towards the end of last month, will have his work cut out.

"I think he (Williams) has a lot of challenges ahead. Centrelink is a good case in point. It has nine warehouses full of paperwork – no organisation should have nine warehouses full of papers."
