BMC partners to drive IT/Business alignment plans

Infrastructure management system provider BMC Software has said its recently-secured triumvirate of partners will help strengthen its Business Service Management (BSM) initiative.

The company's BSM initiative sets out to better align IT services to business objectives, so that enterprises can better determine what function the various components of their IT infrastructure have in their overall business processes.

"We want o enable our customers to change the way they do business by managing IT from a business perspective," said Martin Beasley, BMC's Marketing Director. "Rather than having issues with IT and not understanding what those components relate to, if we can relate those IT components to a business process, companies will be able to better assess their impact."

To that end, BMC has created a foundation partner program, with EMC, Symantec and Accenture coming on board.

Accenture is working with BMC to help customers more quickly realise the benefits of BSM, including lowered costs and improved operational effectiveness, through the alignment of business and IT goals.

EMC is to integrate its ControlCenter storage management software with BMC's Patrol, Remedy, and Service Impact Manager solutions, providing faster and more useful root cause analysis, business-driven storage automation, and integrated asset management.

Meanwhile, Internet security provider Symantec is integrating its Incident Manager with BMC's Remedy solutions. This collaboration will provide integrated trouble-ticketing, asset management, remediation guidance and IT workflow management for security incidents, enabling customers to reduce risk and control costs by identifying and responding to security incidents more quickly. Additionally, BMC and Symantec are developing a combined solution for "business service aware" security management. This solution will enable customers to understand both the potential and actual risk to the business from security issues.

"We want to extend the offering we have to other people and build more relevance in the marketplace," added Beasley. "Having these partners come on with us kind of proves our strategy, as we have a number of customers that have gone down the [BSM] road with us. These three partners are going to integrate their products into ours, making things easier for our customers."
