EMC and Oracle in NAS alliance
Storage system provider EMC and enterprise software vendor Oracle are to collaborate on a service that will help their customers more easily deploy Oracle Database with EMC's network-attached storage (NAS) technology.
The service, which goes by the rather unwieldy name of 'Oracle Database with EMC: Accelerator for NAS,' will see service professionals from EMC Global Services and Oracle Consulting work in tandem with customers to design, deploy and optimise EMC's Celerra NS600 enterprise systems and software with Oracle Database technology.
Steve Redman, Managing Director, EMC Australia and New Zealand, commented: "EMC and Oracle have worked together to build, test and document integrated solutions that fit into a customer's tiered storage strategy and help them quickly realise the benefits of a common EMC management framework that can be leveraged across multiple Oracle Database servers. With Oracle Database with EMC: Accelerator for NAS solution, we're able to architect an environment that gives administrators greater control, reduces costs and simplifies the provisioning of new storage to support growth."
Paul Cross, Vice President Technology Strategy and Architecture, Oracle Consulting, added, "Customers running Oracle databases in departmental applications are increasingly looking for storage alternatives that are cost-effective and easy to manage. We've worked closely with EMC to design a solution that helps our mutual customers quickly take advantage of the benefits of NAS to maximise their storage utilisation, effectively backup their information and manage their Oracle environment."
Meanwhile, EMC has also announced its support for Oracle Database 10g, Oracle's latest database software that it showcased at its OracleWorld event earlier in the week. According to Oracle, 10g is the first infrastructure designed for grid computing, while the new storage features incorporated into the software will "provide customers with a platform for information lifecycle management."
