KAZ adds government win to recent good run
Australian IT outsourcing service provider KAZ has continued its recent run of contract wins by securing a contract with the government to provide ICT services to the Department of Communications, IT and the Arts (DOCITA).
The contract, which is worth over $4 million over three years, with the potential of a three-year extension, will see KAZ provide desktop LAN/WAN services, application support and database administration (DBA) services.
News of the contract win comes less than a fortnight after KAZ announced that it had secured a three-year IT managed services contract with aluminium refiner Alcoa World Alumina Australia, worth around $5million annually.
The government announced simultaneously that another Australia firm, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications, has been awarded a contract with the same department to provide voice services.
The Minister for Communications, IT and the Arts, Senator Richard Alston welcomed the signing of the two contracts, commenting that the announcement "demonstrates that Australian firms are successfully competing for significant Australian Government contracts – an excellent sign for the future of the industry."
Peter Kazacos, Managing Director of KAZ, said the contract win represented just reward for the company's efforts in increasing its presence in the nation's capital. "KAZ has been working hard at building our outsourcing capabilities in ACT – leveraging KAZ's reputation for delivering managed services, with the specialist expertise of our ACT staff including from the former Aspect Computing, acquired by KAZ in March 2002.
"KAZ's strength in providing managed services was certainly a differentiator in this contract. Our track record with similar contracts was significant in DOCITA's decision to award KAZ the contract for these services."
