EMC targets SME market with new software

Storage vendor EMC has announced the release of its latest line of storage software, which is aimed at the small to medium sized organisations, as well as a number of enhancements to software applications for its CLARiiON networked storage platforms.

The new storage management applications – EMC VisualSRM and EMC VisualSAN – are designed to help SMEs simplify and automate their networked storage environments. It enables administrators to get more out of their storage assets by centralising management, improving capacity utilisation, and automating previously burdensome storage resource management (SRM) and storage area network (SAN) management tasks.

Mark Lewis, EMC's Executive Vice President of Open Software Operations and Chief Technology Officer, said, "Similar to today's large enterprises, mid-sized companies are charged with the task of managing their rapidly growing storage assets while also maintaining relatively flat budgets and headcount. But unlike large enterprises, these companies often lack storage expertise and therefore require solutions where simplicity is at the core of their design. EMC's VisualSRM and VisualSAN solutions are extremelypowerful and simple to use tools that will help our customers lower their management costs."

As part of the broad introduction of the new storage management software products, EMC also announced enhancements to its Navisphere, SnapView and SAN Copy software applications for CLARiiON networked storage platforms. The company said the technology advances are targeted directly at customer demands for greater ease of management, powerful backup and recovery and consolidation.
