EMC and BMC form global software alliance

The desire to be able to deliver end-to-end storage management capabilities to enterprise customers has prompted storage management software provider EMC and enterprise management software vendor BMC to enter into a global sales, marketing and technology partnership.

Abie Gelbart, product marketing manager at EMC, says the two companies will make a potent combination.

"BMC are very knowledgeable in the applications management space, while EMC is very focused on the storage networking management space, so between the two of us we are a very significant force in the market in terms of providing total management solutions for our customers, who are always trying to reduce costs."

Alan Lee, director of enterprise systems management in Asia-Pacific at BMC, believes the alliance will simplify things for the customers of both EMC and BMC.

"The agreement is an opportunity for us to provide complete end-to-end system management solutions for our customers. Also, from a technological point of view, we expect EMC to work very closely with us in integrating BMC's Patrol systems management solution with EMC's ControlCenter open storage management software."

Gelbart agrees, adding that the partnership will not only simplify users' IT environments, it will also prove beneficial to users in terms of cost savings.

"It's about core competency, and by putting the two of us together we are taking each other's core competencies, focusing on that and trying to integrate into a single entity, as customers do not want numerous tools to manage different parts of their IT environment.

"In the future, the whole focus of this is for customers to be able to manage their environment in a far simpler way than they have done in the past, to automate as much as possible and to ensure that it works across an open infrastructure so no matter what you have on the floor, the system tools will manage what you have in terms of hardware and applications, which will reduce costs."
