Storability swallows up ProvisionSoft's technology

Enterprise storage provider Storability Software has acquired the storage resource management (SRM) software of the now defunct ProvisionSoft, which closed in April.

ProvisionSoft launched its own SRM tool last year, but reportedly found only a solitary cutomer for the technology, which ultimately led to its demise when parent company CMGI pulled the plug after failing to attract a buyer.

Storability says it has bought the "intellectual property and intangible assets" related to ProvisionSoft's DynamicIT software product, a proactive resource management software application, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition will help enhance Storability’s Global Storage Manager (GSM) enterprise storage resource management (ESRM) solution by providing advanced workflow automation and provisioning technology.  Storability customers will benefit from new technology that will allow them to intelligently and predictively allocate and utilise existing storage and server resources in a data centre to reduce the overall cost of ownership and eliminate expensive over-provisioning of resources.

"The ProvisionSoft technology acquisition significantly enhances our ESRM capabilities to include storage and server provisioning," says Tim Leisman, Storability CEO. "The DynamicIT technology complements our current capabilities and offers immediate value to our customers. We plan to quickly leverage the technology to speed the development of more advanced workflow automation functionality for Global Storage Manager."
