Lynx and Exabyte in market alliance

Storage distributor Lynx Technologies has entered into an agreement with Exabyte to resell the tape backup system provider's VXA-2 automation solutions through its network of channel partners.

Lynx has fully certified VXA-2 and has begun marketing the ten-slot VXA-2 autoloader under the Lynx brand.

Gary Farrow, product manager at Lynx, revealed the company's thinking behind supporting Exabyte.

"DDS continues to dominate the entry level backup market and LTO is comfortably the leading technology in the super class drive market. The mid range tape market does not have a clear leader. Lynx has been evaluating quite a few technologies in the 40-100GB native capacity range and from a technical perspective found VXA-2 most interesting.

"VXA-2 has excellent automation support and offers affordable solutions for the rapidly increasing number of corporate departments and small-to-medium-sized businesses that are outgrowing standalone tape drives."

Richard Giddey, country manager of Australia and New Zealand at Exabyte, says that Lynx's decision to resell VXA-2 said a tremendous amount about the quality of the product.

"Lynx is one of the most prominent OEMs of storage solutions in the rapidly growing Australian market, and its selection of VXA-2 automation products is a major endorsement of VXA-2 as the tape technology with the best automation support for the SMB/departmental market.

"Lynx's evaluation process is very rigorous and their test results demonstrated how big an advantage VXA-2 has in reliability, capacity, speed and automation support over othertechnologies in the same class."
