Adaptec continues storage acquisition push

Storage infrastructure systems provider Adaptec has completed the acquisition of German storage vendor ICP Vortex Computersysteme GmbH, which was owned by chip manufacturer Intel.

Intel has owned the company since 2001, when it was in the midst of a series of acquisitions of companies in various markets. It has since sold off a number of these units and discontinued others as it looks to focus once more on its core business of designing and manufacturing chips.

The financial details of the acquisition of the company, which manufacturers RAID data protection solutions, including SCSI, Serial ATA and Fibre Channel products.

Adaptec intends to continue the ICP Vortex operation in Europe, complementing its own offerings for storage connectivity, data protection, storage networking and external storage.

The acquisition closely follows the purchase by Adaptec of another storage vendor, Eurologic Systems, which was completed in March.

"The ICP vortex brand is among the most recognized and trusted brands for data protection in Germany and across Europe, and we're pleased to add the ICP vortex team to our global operation," says Ahmet Houssein, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Solutions Group. "ICP vortex's capabilities further extend Adaptec's strength in delivering end-to-end storage infrastructure - from core data protection technology to turnkey networked storage solutions - to our customers worldwide."
