Further boost for EMC's mid-tier push

Storage vendor EMC has made another big stride in its assault on the mid-tier market, with the appointment of solutions provider Commander as a reseller for EMC's CLARiiON CX range of products in Australia.

The agreement comes less than a month after EMC signed a distribution agreement with Express Data, in which Express Data agreed to distribute the CLARiiON suite of products to the company's 4000-strong group of channel partners throughout the country.

Commander, which offers voice, data and Internet solutions to over 100,000 SMEs and branch offices of corporates, is estimated to have around half a million customers with a growing requirement for entry-level SAN and NAS systems, with 10 per cent of its data business revenue coming from storage sales.

David Henderson, general manager partners and alliance at EMC Australia, says the partnership is "a significant step in EMC's uncompromising push into the SME space. Commander has a strong presence in the SME market that has been earned through proficiency and continued growth."

Henderson added that the tie in would also enhance Commander's established brand, and claimed that the CLARiiON range was a perfect fit for Commander's SME customers.

Steve Evans, general manager of Commander's data business, agreed that the alliance would help Commander realise its ambition to increase their profile and market share in the data services space.

"Working with EMC in the SME space will help us expand our voice and data business. EMC is a strong brand with a compelling offering and a reputation for technical stability. It is what the mid-tier craves right now.

"Partnering with EMC will strengthen our position in the data services market, allowing us to provide our SME customers with high-quality storage solutions that are suitably priced.

"This agreement is a key element in Commander's strategy to continue to growits national presence and play a leading role in providing storage solutionsto the SME market."
