EMC lowers cost of mid-range networked storage

EMC has announced enhancements to its range of mid-tier storage platforms, while at the same time lowering the entry price for the architecture.

The company claims that it's new CLARiiON CX200, featuring integrated ATA drive technology, performs around 60 per cent faster. It also features a new single-controller option, with prices starting at around US$10,000.

"Businesses are looking for an upgradeable product line that can grow and adapt with their environment,"said John Schwartz, senior VP and general manager of CLARiiON systems division at EMC. "With these new enhancements to the CX200, EMC is offering a very attractive entry point into the industry's leading mid-tier product series."

Meanwhile, secure messaging applications provider Tumbleweed Communications has completed the integration of its Message Monitor 5.2 e-mail content filtering system with EMC's Centera and Centera Compliance Edition content addressed storage solutions.

"The combination of EMC Centera's content addressed storage (CAS) technology and Tumbleweed's total compliance solution address customer requirements for a low cost TCO solution, combining e-mail and instant message filtering, tagging and compliance review with tamper-proof, extensible fixed content archived storage and retrieval," said Roy Sanford, EMC's VP of content addressed storage.
