More hard drive space for less

More hard drive storage space for less cost is the bold claim of StorageTek in the release of its latest Shared Virtual Array the V2X2.

Announced today, the V2X2 comes with improved hardware and software.

"Our customers have told us loud and clear to help them eliminate excessive purchasing of under utilised storage capacity, while providing an enterprise class storage solution to protect, share and manage the lifecycle of their data. At the same time, customers tell me they need a storage solution that can do more with fewer people and disk resources," said the managing director of StorageTek's Australian branch office Philip Belcher.

Amongst the improvements StorageTek claim for the new V2X2 is increased capacity from the Seagate 73GB dives, which they claim offer a 10 per cent improvement in performance.

Targeted at data centres, the V2X2 has StorageTek's SVA Virtual Power Suite Software application for remote copying. This will provide end users with a choice of synchronised remote mirroring of their data or an asynchronous point in time to copy data to a secondary site should a disaster occur.

StorageTek claims to have improved the reporting software of its SVAA Point-in-Time Reports application, this system includes a subsystem for providing summaries, device details and I/O interface details.

The SVAA Point-in-Time Reporting and the PowerPPRC systems and the V2X2 are available across Australia today, whilst the two applications are available for existing SVA systems as well.
