Computer Associates is muscling into the highly competitive storage-area networks (SAN) market, shipping a management application it claims will centralise and simplify administering heterogeneous SANs.
The enterprise management software vendor announced the availability of its BrightStor SAN Manager, which puts Computer Associates (CA) in direct competition with Veritas's SANPoint.
SAN Manager promises to remove some of the pain of managing and maintaining storage networks. The product has graphical interface that monitors systems performance and can serve up warnings in case of performance degradation or other events, to simplify the management of even the most extensive multi-SAN environments, said Computer Associates (CA).
CA claims these features will reduce the risk of costly storage failures. IT departments can determine how SAN capacity or availability issues relate to critical business processes and so respond appropriately to any SAN-related event, thanks to BrightStor SAN Manager, CA says.
Richard Collins, regional manager storage for CA Australia and New Zealand, said: "With new BrightStor SAN Manager CA is entering the competitive SAN market. We've taken our extensive knowledge in the network management space and brought it into a SAN environment where the network is critical. This gives our customers access to a solution designed to drastically cut the time and training needed to effectively manage a heterogeneous SAN environment, allowing them to fully-realise the high benefits SAN technology offers."
BrightStor SAN Manager integrates with CA's BrightStor Storage Resource Manager and BrightStor Portal for efficient administration and asset utilisation of the heterogeneous storage environment, CA says. SAN Manager also supports a full range of devices from leading storage vendors - including ADIC, Brocade, EMC, Emulex, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and XIOtech.
BrightStor SAN Manager is available from CA and CA's global network of enterprise storage partners.
