High speed sheet-fed scanners

January 15, 2009: Epson has launched two high speed sheet-fed scanners, the Epson GT-S80 which scans 40 pages per minute (ppm) single sided and 80 images per minute (ipm) in a double sided scan, while the GT-S50 scans at 25 ppm single sided and 50 ipm double sided.

The GT-S50 and GT-S80 both have dual CCD technology that scan up to 600 dpi for fast double-sided scanning, Epson’s mercury free ReadyScan LED technology for fast scans with virtually no warm-up time and a 75 page feeder for rapid capture of large multi page documents.

To handle a diverse array of documents the GT-S50 and GT-S80 support A4, legal, letter, B5, B6, A5, and A6 document scanning, as well as ID and business cards scanning. Users can scan 10 business cards at once into a digital library withNewSoft Bizcard OCR Software.

Using the provided carrier sheet, users can easily scan A3/B4 size documents which would be too large for an A4 scanner by simply folding the document into A4 size and placing it into the carrier sheet. Once scanned, the document can be stitched into the original A3 or B4 size.

Epson Scan 3.6 software can be used as either a TWAIN interface from within programs such as Microsoft Word or as a full functioning standalone program, this versatile software delivers an amazing range of scanning and document management features that help make full use of the GT-S50 and GT- S80’s advanced scanning technologies.

Document management features that are available in Epson Scan 3.6 include, automatic de-skewing and background colour removal, hole punch removal, blank page skip, text enhancement, single colour enhancement or single colour dropout, and image or graphics enhancement to better reproduce images in text documents. The GT-S80 also has ultrasonic double-feed detection that greatly improves throughput and document handling.

Scanning to PDF is an important option in the office and with the advanced Epson scan software and the bundled ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint 6, documents can be saved as searchable PDF (Windows only), compressed PDF (2 compression levels: Standard and High), encrypted PDF with a password, along with several other PDF save features.

To better support extremely high demand document scanning requirements, both scanners are bundled with an ISIS (Image and Scanner Interface Specification) driver that can work seamlessly with custom-built business applications.

The Epson Event Manager software allows users to customise up to 10 different job settings for one touch scanning from the front panel buttons. Users can easily navigate through the saved job settings on the two-line LCD panel selecting from either the optional user-created job name, or the job number, job description and job settings - reducing the hassle of having to remember job number codes.

The GT-S50 and GT-S80 can also perform direct scanning to IT applications or folders such as Microsoft Share Point, Network or FTP folders. Users can customise these job settings by assigning aVBS script to launch actions in Epson Event Manager allowing easy integration of scanning jobs into document management system processes.

NewSoft Presto! PageManager 8 Standard is bundled on the GT-S50, while the GT-S80 is equipped with the Professional version, creating an archival document management system out of the box.ABBYY FineReader Sprint Plus OCR, allows users to capture editable text in 177 different languages, and NewSoft Presto! BizCard Reader also comes as standard on both models, quickly converting vital contact information on business cards into a searchable digital database.

The scanners also have Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity to any PC, and are compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
