SmartSource puts cheques on the page

August 7, 2009:Unisys has announced the new SmartSource Adaptive series of image capture devices that combine speedy cheque processing with full-page image capture capabilities.

“Large multi-national financial institutions are looking for flexible payment technology that will allow them to meet their business needs across varied country specific regulatory environments,” said Alan Howard, president of Unisys Payment Systems.

“This new series of scanner provides that flexibility; with a full complement of inbuilt cheque processing capabilities, and the added benefit of intermixed full-page processing in a single compact footprint that is tailored to the bank branch and back office environment.”

Standard features include an auto-sensing (CMC7 and E13B) MICR reader, as well as early front image capture for quality validation, along with variable image renditions (black & white and grey scale) and resolutions (100 dpi up to 240 dpi). Also available with the new series are options for optical character recognition, one to four lines of height-adjustable endorsement with graphics, and a franking capability.

The new Unisys technology captures full-page documents at high (300 dpi) resolution, to enable easy integration with industry leading full-page intelligent character recognition engines. cheque-sized and full-page documents can be intermixed for processing, with detection of document size, so the appropriate processing rules can be applied.

All these features are provided at a throughput rate of up to 70 cheque-sized documents per minute or 30 full page documents per minute.

Volume shipments for the SmartSource Adaptive series are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
