HP Heats Up Printing Security
Month Date, 2007: When any kind of document is transmitted from your PC to an external device there is risk involved, HP is working to minimise this with its focus on printing security.
HP claims that Secure Print Advantage is the industry’s first hardware-based security solution to minimize\se business risk. It achieves this by addressing printer security risks from the documents inception up until the ink hits the paper.
“This solution provides the necessary automation and simplification of security tasks, like key management, to reduce the costs and burdens generally associated with them.” said Chris Whitener, chief strategist, Secure Advantage, HP.
One of the key features of Secure Print Advantage is the prevention of malware and virus’s spreading from an infected document to the rest of the network when it’s printed. With the current state of the security market being inundated with threats, this is potentially a key focal point for the technology.
“Printers are now often entry points into corporate and government networks for intrusions, data theft, denial-of-service attacks, viruses and worms, and yet are often overlooked as a security risk,” said Chris Christiansen, program vice president, Security Products and Services Group, IDC.
