OmniPage SDK delivers capture-ready apps

Nuance Communications has announced OmniPage Capture Software Developer Kit (SDK) 19, for developers wanting to add sophisticated optical character recognition (OCR), imaging, and PDF creation and conversion capabilities to business applications.

New to the OmniPage Capture SDK is a powerful yet simple tool, Form Template Editor, which improves productivity in form processing – one of the biggest business processes related to document imaging.

This standalone application enables structured data extraction through template-based form matching. The Form Template Editor delivers a simple template creation process, making sophisticated form recognition accessible for end users without needing special training.

The Form Template Editor takes a blank or filled form and creates a template automatically using the OmniPage OCR engine and form recognition technology. Customers can build a library of reusable form templates. The software automatically finds a template match from the library, and extracts and exports the data so it can be used in database entry.

Other new features in the OmniPage Capture SDK include:

Enhanced image processing technologies to improve the OCR accuracy on photos to support the growing use of smartphones as capture devices.

Support for the ePub format to deliver to tablet device users the best eBook reading experience.

OCR results can now be output to MP3 audio format through the Nuance flagship text-to-speech technology, enabling virtually all users to listen to document content read aloud.

These features build on other leading OmniPage Capture SDK capabilities such as the OmniPage Cloud Service that delivers cloud-based imaging and OCR services for any devices which support HTTPS access. Also, the SDK has been architected to support numerous mobile operating system platforms to enable customers to build out their OCR solutions on mobile devices.

“The OmniPage Capture SDK provides everything developers need to add robust OCR, imaging and PDF capabilities,” said Michael Rich, executive vice president and general manager, Nuance Document Imaging.

“With the addition of Form Template Editor, developers can create forms workflows that accelerate business processes, reduce errors and cut costs significantly. It demonstrates Nuance’s never-ending commitment to provide the best tools for building productivity-enhancing applications.”
