Canon snaps up Oce for $A1.17B

Canon will swallow European printing and scanning giant Oce if an audacious share buyout is accepted, creating the world's biggest document management company.

The two companies claim the combination will develop their individual strengths in specialist areas, with Canon singling out the benefits of the addition of Océ's production and wide format printing line-up.

Oce will stay a separate legal entity operating as a division within Canon, with headquarters in the Netherlands and responsible worldwide for wide format, commercial printing and business services.

Océ's office activities will be integrated in Canon's Office Imaging Products division. Canon's Large Format Printing will be integrated in the Océ Production Printing Division over the next three years.
