Plug-and-Play wireless Bluetooth scanners

Multiple Intermec industrial scanners can now use a a secure connection (ISCP protocol) over Bluetooth using a new multiport wireless base station.

The SD61 sits between scxanners such as the Intermec SF51 and SR61B, and the host device. It allows up to seven Intermec Bluetooth-equipped scanners to operate in the same work area, connected wirelessly to the same mobile cart solution, PC or Intermec printer.

The Bluetooth Class 1 radio allows any SD61 user to work within a radius of up to 100m from the base in open air. Users that go out of range from the base station are informed visually – by Intermec’s Ready-to-Work light – and by audio messages provided by the SF51 or SR61 scanners. Once users re-enter range they automatically re-connect to the system.

“Intermec’s SD61 reduces downtime and the need to contact system administrators by allowing line managers and individual users to associate scanners to the system without having to gain access to the host computer,” said David Downey, GM of Intermec Data Capture Operations.

“Wireless scanners can be connected and disconnected by simply reading the association barcode on top of the SD61 – alleviating the need for additional dongles or software downloads, which can be a headache for users.”
