Nimbus bring SSD to 10 Gig NAS

April 3, 2008: The IP storage team at Nimbus has unveiled new 10 Gigabit Ethernet systems with solid-state-drive (SSD) options.

Nimbus has shown off their new Breeze Hybrid IP storage systems which run on 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Codenamed the H-series, the easy to use IP storage system features include iSCSI Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) capabilities. On the drive side the H-series offers the choice of SAS, SATA and now flash-based SSD for faster access speeds.

The Breeze systems have received a strong endorsement from the luxury clothing prodivers, Loro Piana who depend on the technology for nonstop access to critical application servers and storage.

“Using the Nimbus Breeze unified IP storage systems as the SAN and NAS foundation for our VMware ESX v3.5 environment, our IT operations run smoothly, efficiently, and virtually administration-free,” said Aaron Martin, IT Manager, Loro Piana. “Given the success to date utilizing the 10 Gigabit bandwidth of the system, we further plan to scale out our Nimbus to run a Virtual Desktop environment, as well.”

The H-series is also pushing the green angle by consuming up to 75% less power than seperate SAN and NAS devices, with operating efficiency hitting 19 wats per terrabyte of data managed.
