Telstra and Polycom sign VOIP Deal

April 30, 2008: Australia’s biggest telecommunications company has teamed up with Polycom to deliver Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) handsets for Telstra’s IP Telephony network.

The handsets are to be co-branded with Polycom and Telstra logos and will be part of the push towards unified communications solutions for enterprise customers. Telstra will resell and distribute Polycom SoundPoint IP handsets as part of the Telstra IP Telephony (TIPT) service.

“Polycom’s leadership in HD voice technology and expertise in feature integration made them the ideal preferred handset partner for the TIPT service,” said Philip Jones, Executive Director, Telstra.

The handsets will incorporate full duplex, echo cancellation and noise reduction technologies, to deliver what Polycom claims is twice the clarity of ordinary phone calls.

"These co-branded handsets are the result of two years of close contact and collaboration between Polycom and Telstra’s technical, sales and product management teams.,” said Michael Chetner, Australia and New Zealand Country Manager, Polycom.

“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Telstra to extend the business benefits of HD-enabled IP telephony to customers across Australia.”
