CA BrightStor links costs to data usage

Computer Associates introduced the availability of BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 by declaring that the enterprise backup and recovery solution enables organisations to align data protection costs with the value of that data to the business.

The company says that this latest version of its enterprise backup offers policy-based management backup functions that allow storage administrators to assign value to different types of data across the enterprise to any available and appropriate storage resource. CA claims that this functionality enables organisations to minimise both business risk and storage infrastructure expenditures.

"One size doesn't fit all when it comes to data protection," said Bob Davis, CA's vice president of BrightStor solutions. "With BrightStor, no customer need ever waste $10,000 to protect $1,000 worth of data, or put data worth $500,000 at risk by backing it up on an inadequate low-end system."

Version 10.5 also allows enterprise storage policies to be defined from a centralised console across all major platforms, including Windows Server 2003, 2000 and NT; major UNIX derivatives and Linux distributions, NetWare and Open VMS. Additionally, it provides backup and recovery for Microsoft SQL Server and Exchange, Oracle, Lotus Notes, Sybase, SAP, R/3, Advantage Ingres, Informix, DB2, and other key applications.

CA customers can use BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 to manage their BrightStor ARCserve Backup version 9 environments. It also fully integrates with BrightStor Storage Resource Manager, CA's eTrust Antivirus, and CA's Unicenter Network and Systems Management and Unicenter Software Delivery.
