DICOM's Pacific raid

The new year has seen changes to the electronic document management (EDM) landscape, as consultant, services and component provider DICOM hit the shores in December.

The imaging firm has immediately courted staff from its competitors, as ex-ACA Pacific Imaging Group national manager Seamus McGuiness has stepped into the role of managing director.

DICOM is already hoping to attract a fair slice of the data capture and storage market share, opening its second office in Melbourne in its second month in Australia.

The company has also increased its imaging consulting team and opened a demo centre for testing and training.

DICOM's move into Australia follows its July purchase of one of its suppliers, Kofax Image Products. The acquisition increased DICOM's staff to 500 and brought the combined companies' value to $265 million.

Following the deal, DICOM has provided solutions from Fujitsu and Kofax to provide both hardware and software for the data capture market.

Mr McGuiness, who has more than 25 years experience in the IT industry, is one of several staff members to have moved from ACA Pacific's imaging division.

ACA Pacific maintained it will move to new strengths, by enhancing its services to the document imaging market. ACA has divided its Imaging Sales into Northern and Southern Regions and appointed new teams to cater for these areas.

The company also plans to maintain its stake in the document management market, saying that it will continue to distribute and expand services for Kodak Digital Science, Fujitsu, Bell+Howell, Kofax, Canon and other solutions.
