IBM and NEC Team up to Unify

While NEC is commonly associated with its popular consumer products, it’s also a key supplier of collaboration and unified communications around the globe, along with its compatriot IBM.

The announcement means NEC’s UNIVERGE gateway module for IBM Lotus Sametime will allow customers to view online presence information, click=call servers and instant messaging thought a UNIVERGE communication server.

“NEC customers will have the choice to integrate their communications into Lotus Sametime, to help streamline business processes,” said Bruce Morse, Vice President, Lotus Software Group, IBM Corporation.

The integration will utilise Eclipse-based Lotus Sametime platforms with a telephone conferencing extension to support the convergence of voice and data. The first beta release of the UNIVERGE gateway is scheduled for release next month.
