Canon launches MFD software suite

March 5, 2009: Canon Australia has announced the launch of iW360 software, combining five applications into one to manage the movement of paper and information around the Canon Multifunction Device (MFD).

It combines tools for working with varying formats including scanned images, graphics, electronic documents, web pages, charts and presentations.

Via a familiar Windows-based interface and drag-and-drop tools, users can perform functions such as:* one-touch scanning through pre-registered buttons,* creating compressed PDF files that are up to 60% smaller in size to keep network traffic down,* quickly storing, retrieving and sharing information, and* production of professional documents by combining multiple file types into one.

Canon Australia’s Product Marketing Specialist, Luke Maddison said, “The sheer volume of information that office workers have to file, search and re-purpose to create other documents continues to grow and this puts huge time pressures on them. The vast array of different file formats then complicates it further and frequently impacts the quality of work, especially visual documents and presentations. The Canon iW360 addresses that simply and effectively.”

The software includes five previously standalone applications:* iW Function Flow for MEAP that allows files to be sent to specific locations with the touch of a button;* A Searchable PDF option to apply Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when scanning documents;* Compact / Trace and Smooth PDF to reduce most file sizes 30 to 60%;* iW Document Manager Workgroup Edition; and* iW Publishing Manager for collating information from a variety of sources into a single cohesive document for printing to a Canon MFD.

Pricing begins at $A2000 depending on confiiguration.
