Victorian Govt opens Ariba B2B portal

The Victorian State Government has launched an online self-service portal that all Victorian Government Departments and Agencies will use to purchase ICT services, utilising the global business-to-business trading platform run by Ariba, a SAP company.

Suppliers looking to do business with State Government  will be asked to register on Ariba and create detailed profiles that outline their services and capabilities.

The Victorian Government Chief Technology Advocate Grantly Mailes said providing the opportunity for a larger pool of companies, including local small and medium-sized ICT businesses to offer their services to Government will stimulate innovation, drive a healthy and competitive market, and create an enabling environment for our entrepreneurs of the future.

To power the portal, the Victorian Government will leverage the Ariba Network and the cloud-based applications delivered on it, including Ariba Sourcing and Ariba Supplier Information Management.

“Our selection of Ariba fits with the Victorian Government ICT Strategy in terms of using commercial off-the-shelf software to provide value for money where possible,” Mr Mailes said.

The Ariba Network is used by more than 1 million companies in 190 countries to transact over $465 billion in commerce annually.

“Business networks and cloud-based applications are fast becoming standard tools in the private sector to drive business transformation. But as innovative agencies like the Victorian Government have found, they deliver compelling results in the public realm as well,” said Justin Williams, General Manager, Southern Australia, SAP.

“In building its eServices register on the Ariba Network, the Victorian Government can create a more efficient, transparent and cost-effective procurement process and drive meaningful change in the way government business is done.”
