Workshare Pushes ‘Leak Proof PDFs’

Workshare Boost ‘Leak Proof PDFs’

June 12, 2007: Workshare says it has launched the first and only document control product to be integrated with Microsoft Office and Vista as well as previous versions – and made a stab at Adobe Acrobat in the process.

The Workshare Professional 5 will ship today for what Workshare labels, a 30 million business professionals market in the US alone. The tool is built for information workers who share and review Office documents as part of their work and provides the necessary compliance and safety mechanism to get the job done.

Workshare is claiming a number of firsts with this release, including the first and only solution to deliver ‘leak proof PDFs,’ though its policy based and auditable risk discovery and remediation prior to PDF conversations, 128-bit encryption and the seamless integration of the Workshare Protect 5 client for information leak prevention.

In a direct stab at Adobe Acrobat, Andrew Pearson general manager of the Document Control market group at Workshare, says professionals can no longer rely on Adobe and similar products for document control and compliance.

“Acrobat not only takes users out of the Office system causing fidelity loss, review inefficiency of 400 percent or more, and lost document master throughout the document lifecycle, but it produces unsafe, un-auditable and non-compliance document version control,” says Pearson. “We continue to innovate ahead of the pack as this market.”

Already the Workshare document control line is used across 6000 organisations in 65 countries. With this latest update, Workshare says it is looking to capture an even larger audience stating 30 million business professionals are all in need of cost effective, accurate and regulatory-ready document control.

Key new features on the Workshare Professional 5 include the integration with Office 2007 and Vista that embeds its Lifecycle Workflows within the 2007 Office Ribbon bar and Task Pane to ensure the policy enforced and compliant documents. The solution’s capabilities are also embedded in 2007 SharePoint Extranet, Collaborative Workspaces and Live Meeting for real-time collaboration.
