Natural England Picks TRIM Context

June 13, 2007: The ACT’s Tower Software has notched up another win, with the conservation organisation Natural England picking TRIM Context to handle its electronic document and records management.

Natural England is an environment organisation in the UK that ties together English Nature, the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Service. This merging of agencies created three separate networks that needed to be tied together under one system, and one that could also manage physical records better.

To this end, TRIM Context was chosen to modernise the organisation’s records management and information lifecycle management (ILM) practices. Natural England’s physical archive also included a variety of records including building deeds, estate data, satellite images, photographs, documents, letters and maps.

“Some of our records go back as far as 50 years. So, when our scientific teams conduct surveys related to mapping, landscapes or conservation and wildlife, it’s often important for them to be able to look back at historical data for comparison,” said Peter Wingate, Team Leader for Knowledge Management at Natural England.

With TRIM, the organisation says it has better control of its archive, enabling more effective use of its data across departments.

“TRIM Context will help Natural England with information sharing between teams and offices – this is particularly important where, for example, they handle freedom of information requests,” added Tony Sumpster, Managing Director for TOWER Software EMEA.
