Space-Time Reaches for the Stars

March 15, 2007: Australian data access and analysis specialist Space-Time Research (STR) has secure a significant deal with the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (ROSSTAT), catapulting it into the European market.

Worth $750,000, the deal will see STR’s SuperSTAR tabulation and dissemination software used in all major Russian surveys. The deal is quote a coup for the Aussie firm, which has opened a UK office just to meet demand.

The deal follows software trials on the Russian Population Census and Enterprise database during 2006. The first production application is currently being rolled out to support the Russian Agricultural Census which was held in 2006.

According to Space-Time Research’s General Manager Marketing, John Ellenberger, the ROSSTAT sale is a major achievement. “ROSSTAT is our first sale into the technically savvy Russian market and despite language and cultural barriers it demonstrates that with a lot of hard work and a little luck, smaller Australian IT companies can succeed in Russia,” said Ellenberger.

According to the company, a key factor in securing the deal was the assistance of Austrade’s business services in Moscow and the quality of Austrade consultants working on the project.

“I strongly commend the excellent services offered by Austrade and would encourage anyone wishing to enter the Russian market to take advantage of Austrade’s support and to approach the market with a positive mindset,” said Ellenberger.

Space-Time Research expects its UK operation to grow rapidly, building on the new markets it has recently opened in Europe, the US and Asia Pacific.
