The concerns were raised as Medicare found 14 doctors were significantly overcharging the system. Between them, they have been forced to repay $1.3 million.

One busy GP has repaid $115,000 after the Medicare watchdog found he would have to work 36 hours a day with no breaks to have provided the services reported. A Lithgow based GP has repaid $270,000 after recording 11,808 home visits, most of which proved to be unnecessary.

A Sydney based doctor was dubbed the ‘busiest GP in Australia’ by the report and has repaid $115,000 of his annual $830,000 earnings.
