NZ Police Seek Image Management Solution

July 21st, 2006: New Zealand Police is seeking tenders for a new Image Management (IM) solution.

NZ police is seeking a new IM system to replace the one it has been using since 1992. According to the tender, the solution must provide a single source repository with the ability to store images in separate categories. Also required is a text based search function and compatibility with biometric facial recognition technology that is planned for future deployment.

The system will be catering for between 50 and 250 operators, with access either through the web or thin client. Any new system will need to interface with the Police’s records management system the National Intelligence Application (NIA) says the tender details.

The NZ Police have significant IM requirements, with responsibility for firearms license holder and prisoner photographs. The traffic volume amounts to almost 116,000 mugshot and license images each year. The tender is open to application until August the 11th.
