Aussie entrepreneurs receive Victoria hand up

Mar 18, 2005: Victorian small businesses are being offered support by the government to help them train entrepreneurs within the company learn how to put innovative business plans into action.

The "Developing Business Skills for ICT Entrepreneurs" initiative aims to offer a series of residential workshops and business mentor sessions to equip participants with the knowledge and management skills necessary to lead business growth in both the Australian and international markets.

Marsha Thomson, the minister for information and communication technology, said that the $60,000 being allocated towards the initiative will help establish the training initiative over a two year period and will subsidise the costs for Victorian participants.

"Twenty small Victorian ICT companies with fewer than 20 employees will each receive $3,000 per participant from the government.

"As part of the training, all participants will develop a business action plan to support individual business growth over the next 3 to 5 years. This is an important initiative as training, mentoring, and business relationship development are vital to the success of small enterprises and the continued growth of our ICT industry."

The training will involve companies from across Australia, so it shall provide a good networking group for businesses to build ICT connections.

This initiative is part of the AustIndustry's Small Business Enterprise Culture Program, with the first nationwide intake of 30 participants in May/June 2005.
