Archiving Regulations Driving Storage Software Market

March 17, 2008: According to new data from the analysts at IDC, archiving has emerged as a major driver of storage software growth.

The company says that 2007 saw the market for storage software achieve its seventh consecution year of growth, with the fourth quarter notching up revenue growth of 11.2 percent compared to the same period in 2006.

This growth has put the value of the market for Q4 at US$2.9 (AU$3.08) billion, while data for the full year puts growth at 10.4 percent and almost US$11 (AU$11.69) billion, driven mainly by the by the archiving applications market, which grew 18.6 percent in response to e-discovery and compliance requirements.

“Overall market growth was up more than 11 percent year over year, which was driven primarily by a strong performance in the archiving market,” said Michael Margossian from IDC. “In addition, three out of the top four vendors in the data protection market and in the replication market posted double digit growth rates for the quarter.”
