Quantum has released a new tape library that will fit in between its existing devices. The new Quantum ATL M1800 provides users with a device that will run up to four DLT tapes or LTO drives.

"It fits neatly between our current ATL M1500 and ATL M2500 products," said Simon Harvey the managing director of Quantum in Asia Pacific.

As a member of Quantum's M-series of libraries the new device is modular and scalable. Quantum said it designed the M1800 to offer a high density per rack and it can grow to include 300 slots and 20 drives. Using Quantum's StackLink technology the M1800 can be "re-built" whilst remaining online.

Quantum claim they are entering the local market with some aggressive pricing and will be offering the M1800 for $60,0000 for a dual SDLT 320 configuration.

"Quantum designed the ATL M1800 as a direct response to customers' needs for a reliable and lower cost library solution in the 40/60 slot capacity range," said Marc Nagao, the M-Series product manager.
