WebSphere Application Server Smashes Industry Benchmark

Month Date, 2008: IBM’s Websphere Application Server, a key building block for Services Orientated Architecture (SOA) has smashed a key industry benchmark for scalability and performance.

Big Blue’s application server delivered 50 million business transactions per hour on the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation’s (SPEC’s) AppServer2004 benchmark, beating the record previously held by Oracle by 33%.

Tom Rosamilia, general manager of IBM Application and Integration Middleware explains that "IBM has more than 100,000 WebSphere Application Server customers worldwide and these results confirm why IBM middleware is consistently chosen to power some of the world's largest and most demanding applications,”

WebSphere has more than 9,000 independent software vendors with a community of two million developers writing applications on top of the SOA runtime platform. IBM claims that the SOA market is worth an estimated $160 billion, so it's little wonder that so much attention is being paid to the sector.
