First release DVD-RAM libraries range from 312GB to 2.2TB

A new range of DVD-RAM automated libraries targeted at the healthcare, engineering, financial, legal and government sectors, has been released by Plasmon.

Among the applications are medical imaging and patient record management, financial cheque imaging, legal case study management, engineering design, government file management, digital pre-press and graphics production as well as backup, film broadcast and digital assets management.

The multipurpose libraries support CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and DVD-R media, and offer a low cost (as low as $26 per GB) nearline storage solution.

Storage capacities for the library range from 312GB to 1.2 TB in three models of 120, 240 and 480. When fully populated with DVD-ROM media, the total storage capacity reaches 2.2TBs.

The units will come with two, four and six Hitachi GF1050 drives modified by Plasmon for the performance needs of an automated library. The drives support 2.6GB single-sided DVD-RAM media and are backwards compatible with all CD and DVD-R formats.

Current CD-ROM/CD-R library customers have the option of upgrading their units to DVD-RAM but mixed drive types will not be supported. A network attached storage device (NASD) is also available.

AustStor will distribute the DVD-RAM libraries in Australia. For more information contact 02 9417 2244 or visit www.auststor.com.au.
