Training for storage networks

Training for storage networks

With the gamut of networking storage options increasing as more vendors unleash their products, the end user faces a harder task to determine what will suit their needs, and to best exploit the solution they select.

The Developing Storage Networking Facilities seminar at Sydney's Star City Casino from May 18-19, will explore some of the strategies to best implementing a network storage solution, as well as look toward the future of this technology.

The two day training seminar will begin with the context for networked storage, by analysing the factors that have and will continue to create a storage boom, as well as the situation with standards for this section of the storage market in which more and more vendors are investing.

Presenter Bernie Humphries, product marketing manager for e-DataGroup, will also define the difference between the primary network storage options, Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN). This will include a look at the strengths, weaknesses and best uses of each, as well as the importance of redundancy to the implementation.

The program will turn from this global perspective to a more local look at the current storage problems of individual attendees, and discuss the best strategies for addressing these storage issues.

Workshop groups will investigate the pros and cons of the variety of network storage options, and promoting a proposed project to management. From this initial phase of an implementation, the seminar will look in greater depth at the logistics of realising a storage solution.
