Kofax takes it to the desktop

June 18, 2009:Enterprise capture company Kofax is launching entry-level desktop scanning software that links closely with Office 2007 and SharePoint.

Kofax Desktop is the new platform for simple capture and storage of digital images of paper documents. It can be used as a simple method to scan attachments into email messagesand the software offers easy access to TWAIN-based scanners through a drop-down menu bar.

The software also features right-click scanning from Windows Explorer or the Desktop, thus allowing users to scan, automatically convert a document into a PDF file format and then save or email the image without having to open multiple applications. Scanned images can also be tabbed within Excel spreadsheets or embedded within Word documents and PowerPoint presentations for easy reference or access.

“With the introduction of Kofax Desktop software, we now have broader access to the capture market and can provide a range of products to address desktop to enterprise needs,” said Jim Nicol, Executive Vice President of Products at Kofax.

“Kofax Desktop provides powerful scan options within Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook or for scanning into SharePoint applications that many workers and individuals use every day. It eliminates the need for separately launched programs and time-consuming back-and-forth program switching, making image scanning as simple, convenient and efficient as printing a document.”

Kofax Desktop also enables Scan-to-SharePoint capabilities through SharePoint Server 2007, thus allowing users to scan images directly into an existing document library folder or create new folders quickly and simply. Additionally, the software provides the ability to add a hyperlink within a Microsoft Outlook 2007 email message to a scanned document.

Kofax Desktop is now available in a free trial version as a download at http://www.kofax.com/. The software can subsequently be licensed for $US29.00.
