HELIOS speeds up creative’s search

HELIOS Software has extended its cross-platform Index Server search system, which is fully compatible with Apple's Spotlight search technology, to include XMP metadata from InDesign and Acrobat PDF documents.

It allows Windows, Mac, and Web users to easily find InDesign and PDF files on large file server volumes within seconds by searching for criteria such as author, copyright, and other XMP metadata content.

This improves efficiency, reducing costs for creative departments using InDesign, and small businesses, enterprises, or government departments that need to quickly find data stored in Acrobat PDF files.

“Photographers, designers and media service providers store their project metadata in default and customised XMP and IPTC fields. Adobe Bridge is used as a digital media asset management tool to edit and maintain this kind of metadata," explained Helmut Tschemernjak, CEO of HELIOS Software GmbH.

“Our HELIOS Spotlight search completes Bridge for finding files on large server volumes based on their metadata. The Spotlight search works from any Mac, Windows or WebShare client without any Bridge installation and is lightning fast.”

The new Spotlight search capabilities include:

Adobe InDesign CS 3 to CS 6 XMP indexing support including author, title, description, copyright and other XMP metadata fields;

Acrobat PDF XMP indexing support, which adds to the already supported indexing and search capabilities for basic PDF document information, PDF forms, and PDF text content; and

Custom defined XMP metadata fields in Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat documents.

XMP and IPTC metadata can be created and modified in Adobe products like InDesign, Acrobat, Bridge, Photoshop, etc.
